My situation is not abnormal; eating disorders have the highest mortality rate in the genre of mental illnesses. 10-15% of all Americans suffer from some type of disordered eating. Medically, I am on the other side and maintain a healthy weight through proper diet and exercise. However, psychologically I continue to fight my depression and anxiety as the battle to exert commercialized control over the human body wages on. As a result I have seen how the fitness industry is not equivalent to health, and believe it is now my job as a fitness professional to make this utterly clear.
