Let’s Define.

Dialectic: This is probably a word you haven’t heard since that one liberal arts class you took in college to fulfill some elective credit. Believe it or not, though, our whole existence is basically one big dialectical engagement. Why?

In some ways, a dialectic is just a fancy word for debate. To forge a dialectic between concepts is to discuss and examine metaphysical contradictions and their solutions. In other words, a dialectic is an interaction between persons expressing various viewpoints through reasoned arguments in the ultimate hunt for truth. We do this hundreds of times each day.

And this is why the foodie is not just some food snob snapping pictures of pretty plates at Michelin-starred restaurants. In fact, I believe the foodie’s dialectical debate exists within many realms (intersections). Through food (and this blog), we will therefore begin ongoing conversations about cultural appropriation, politics of the food system, gender in the kitchen, the history of fine dining, and what makes food taste so good. So, read on, get curious, and taste something new.
